Strategic Grants

Strategic Grants aim to generate innovative and collaborative research in the areas of identified knowledge gaps or those deemed to be priorities of the Heart Foundation.

2021 topics announced

The Heart Foundation has continued consultation with Australians living with heart conditions, the general community, health professionals and other stakeholders to inform our research priorities.

Mental Health and Heart Disease Strategic Grant

The grant is to provide an innovative research program in mental health and heart disease and to demonstrate multidisciplinary partnerships and collaboration. The focus will be on the prevention and/or management of mental illness in people with cardiovascular disease.

Behaviour Change Strategic Grant (Dietary or Physical Activity)

This grant is to develop interventions that will improve diet or physical activity with the aim to reduce cardiovascular disease. The focus will be on strategies that are practical, scalable and clinically impactful in delivering diet or physical activity improvements.

The grant may address, but is not limited to:

  • Behaviour change models targeting individuals and/or community – targeting health eating or physical activity,
  • Novel evidence-based technologies and strategies for improving dietary or physical behaviours,
  • Strategies that are relevant and applicable to improve diet or physical activity in disadvantaged populations,
  • Application of novel assessment tools that support improvement in dietary behaviours, and
  • Studies focused on behaviour change interventions that address sitting less and moving more to reduce cardiovascular disease.
