Heart Foundation reviews its operations in challenging financial environment

6 September 2021

Along with many other charities, the Heart Foundation’s revenue has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.  To deal with the financial and operational consequences of this, we are now reviewing our business model with a view to raising revenue and cutting costs.

We are reviewing the organisation’s programs and structure, including the number of employees and positions, and temporarily freezing recruitment and external spending. Inevitably, some services and programs will be reshaped to create opportunities for innovation and synergy across the organisation.

The Heart Foundation also has several big fundraisers planned for the next few months. We look forward to the generous support of the community during activities such as Give with Heart Day and My Marathon.

This review to align the organisation’s operations and budget is an opportunity to reshape and prepare for the future, responding to the many changes in work practices and the external environment of the past two years.

There will be redundancies, as well as some redeployment across the organisation, and vacant positions will not be refilled as we right-size and ensure the right skills are in place to deliver our strategy moving forward. This is a time of great uncertainty for our people, but we are committed to supporting them and keeping them informed.

The Heart Foundation will continue to use our position as a trusted voice based on evidence and ensure we focus on areas where we can have the greatest impact.

We will continue a local presence across Australia while maintaining a national focus on programs.

Our main focus will be engagement across the community, ensuring people at the highest risk of heart disease are a priority, while we also continue our important work with health professionals, researchers and governments.

The Heart Foundation’s mission and core purpose does not change - we will continue our work to prevent heart disease in Australia, and to support those already living with it.

We are committed to delivering on our Vision, Mission, Purpose, and the broad Connecting Hearts 2023 strategy.

Kind regards,
Professor Garry Jennings AO
Heart Foundation Interim CEO
