Join Kate in making a difference to future generations

Kate wanted to find a way she could make a difference to future generations

Kate's heart story

Kate says, “I went to the Public Trustee to write my will”. The Trustee explained to Kate, “If you choose to leave a certain amount to a charity, it does lose value over time, due to the cost of living." In comparison, a percentage or share, never devalues.

Today, Kate endorses this same advice because in her experience, “A percentage makes it far simpler and focuses you. I found it to be a very easy process.” Kate rests assured that by including a percentage gift in will to the Heart Foundation, her legacy will have the greatest impact on the future of heart research in Australia.
Think about your own family history. Make it better for the generations to come. As an older person, it’s not about us anymore. The will is about those future generations.
By including a percentage gift to the Heart Foundation, Kate will be “looking after my family in a different way. By default, you’ve done something for generations to come.”

To ensure her gift will continue to make a difference into the future, Kate will leave a residual (percentage) gift to the Heart Foundation. This approach is becoming more popular with Heart Foundatin supporters as it ensures their commitment maintains its value over time.

Kate’s advice: How you can arrange a residual gift in your will

The easiest way to arrange a residual gift in your will is to allocate a percentage of your estate to people you love and causes or organisations that are important to you.

The Heart Foundation Director of Bequests, Ian Lawton, explains that Kate’s gift will increase over time and will have a greater positive. More than 600 Heart Foundation supporters agree; they have included a residual (percentage) gift to the Heart Foundation in their will.

“Wills are about looking after family, and leaving a bequest does that in a different way. [Leaving a gift in your will] helps to make things better for generations to come, and that’s what I want,” says Kate.
