How to prepare your Will to include a bequest

You can save Australian lives by including a gift in your Will to The Heart Foundation.

Help save lives in just three steps

  1. Speak to your solicitor or legal adviser
  2. Write or revise your Will to include your bequest
  3. Please let us know about your gift.
When it comes to Step 3, the Heart Foundation would love to be able to thank you for your extraordinary generosity, and talk to you about how your gift could be used.
Knowing about your bequest also helps us to plan our programs with confidence, as we know your exceptional gift will be there to support Australians in the future.

What legal wording do you need to include in your Will?

This depends on what type of bequest you wish to include.

 Type of bequest:Suggested wording:

Whole estate

When you leave everything you own to the Heart Foundation.
"I give the whole of my estate to the National Heart Foundation of Australia (ABN 98 008 419 761) for which an authorised receipt from the National Heart Foundation of Australia will be an absolute discharge to my executor."

A share of your estate: Residual bequest

When you leave a portion or percentage of what’s left of your estate after you’ve taken care of your loved ones and expenses. It’s not a specific amount of money, so it gives you peace of mind no matter the final size of your estate.
"I give _________ per cent of the residue of my estate to the National Heart Foundation of Australia (ABN 98 008 419 761) for which an authorised receipt from the National Heart Foundation of Australia will be an absolute discharge to my executor."

A specific amount: Pecuniary bequest

When you give a set amount of money. Something you may wish to keep in mind is that pecuniary bequests may lose value over time due to inflation, so you may not end up giving as much as you’d like. We do appreciate gifts of all types and sizes.
"I give $_________ to the National Heart Foundation of Australia (ABN 98 008 419 761) for which an authorised receipt from the National Heart Foundation of Australia will be an absolute discharge to my executor."

Other types of bequests

Speak to your solicitor or legal adviser to make sure you draft the right wording for your bequest. It will need to include our details to make sure your bequest comes to us:

Legal name: National Heart Foundation of Australia
ABN: 98 008 419 761
